This cartoon is particularly worth concerning for the reason that the painter pays great attention to a traditional Chinese virtue—thrift. Beside a table, there are five people—a child, his grandparents and parents, looking at the empty plates where foods have been eaten, with great joy on their faces. Finally, a logo can be noticed, which says “Today, have you cherished food and emptied the plate?”

China, as a civilized society, has been characterized by its kinds of traditional virtues, such as diligence, thrift, honesty and so on. It is these virtues that enable our society and civilization to move forward continuously. However, compared with the past years, Chinese people get wealthier owing to the economic boom and prosperity. As a result, some of them do not value food any more and the phenomenon of wasting becomes more severe. A typical example is that many college students waste foods in canteens. In fact, these bad behaviors have constituted an obstacle that hinders our social progress and civilization.
作为一个文明社会，中国一直以来的突出特征就在于其各种传统美德，例如勤奋、节俭、诚实正直等。正是这些美德使得我们的社会不断前进。然而，与过去相比，由于经济的蓬勃和繁荣，中国人变得更富有了。结果，一部分人便不再珍惜食物，浪费的现象也变得严重了。一个典型例子就是很多大学生在食堂里浪费食物。事实上，这些不好的行为已经构成了一种障碍阻碍着我们的社会进步和文明。
Thus, everyone should bear in mind that thrift can be likened to a journey, leading to a promising future. I, as a youngster, deem that the society as a whole should foster a positive atmosphere to reject, criticize and restrain wasting.
因此，每个人都应该牢记：节俭能被比喻成一条通向美好未来的道路。作为年轻人，我认为整个社会都应该营造一种积极的氛围去拒绝、批判和抵制浪费。
